Background of Association

The athletic association "Filippos" of Amindeo was founded in 1995 by homogenous refugees from the former Soviet Union. The idea of foundation of the club was of three brothers, the Iliadis': Grigoris, Nikos, Merambi.

They began sending their children in various sports. However they didn't find anything to express themselves in either of them. The children learned too few things.

Thus they decide to create their own sports society so that their children could be busy with athletics. Aim of association was to cultivate athletic spirit. Such sports as judo, sambo, and wrestling constitute the main pastime of the sports society.

Nikos Iliadis was the coach of few children (he was a member of the National Judo and Sambo Team of Georgia and has training experience and a trainers degree).

In the first Association council they were chosen:
President - Merambi Iliadis
Vice-President - Grigoris Iliadis
General Secretary - Kitsa Kalanova

The training part undertook Nikos Iliadis (today's trainer of National Greek Judo Team) which brought big successes in Greek Judo.

The first participation of Association was in 1997 and with big progress continued his course in international level (Cadets, Juniors, Men) and 4 medals in worldwide level (Juniors, Men). "Filippos" has 2 Olympic Champions:
1. Golden Olympic Champion of Athens 2004 - Ilias Iliadis
2. Seventh Olympic Champion of Athens 2004 - Revaz Zindiridis

90% of Grreek National Team in Judo today in various categories comes from "Filippos" Amindeou. The last 7 years "Filippos" Amindeou comes out first in the general classification.
